The 30 Day Challenge - Day 25

Your Day, In Great Detail.

Well, because this day isn't finished, and it's been boring anyway, I'll do yesterday instead.

Saturday, 19 June, 2010

Well. Woke up at Walrus's house at a not-too-early hour. Had Milo cereal for brekkie, got dressed, brushed hair, yadayada. Walked down to the bus stop, got on the bus, met Jordan on the bus, got off bus in Palmy. Went to Downtown cimemas, bought ticket for Get Him to the Greek, met James, James got ticket for The A-Team, James swapped ticket for right movie. Went downstairs, bought junkfood, went into Whircoulls, went back upstairs to cinema. Watched Get Him to the Greek, laughed a fair few times (it was a good film), laughed at Jordan's laughing, left cinema when movie was finished (as is customary). Went back to Whitcoulls, didn't buy anything. Had Burger King for lunch. Walked over to Plaza, spent ages roasting in Marbecks (god it was hot in there). Walked round the Plaza, went to JB Hi-Fi, was happy, left JB Hi-Fi, went to other Whitcoulls, didn't buy anything, went back to JB Hi-Fi, bought Yeah Yeah Yeahs's album Show Your Bones, was happy, left JB Hi-Fi, got searched by security guy at door. Went to KFC and got a cookies 'n' cream Krusher (yum). Walked over to bus stop, didn't catch bus. Got picked up by Jordan's dad. Went back to Jordan's. Hung out there, played Jenga, walked to Video Ezy, walked to stupidly-named fish and chip shop. Got tea at stupidly-named fish and chip shop. Walked back to Jordan's. Ate chips. Watched 9 (the animated one, not the musical one) and liked it. Watched Sherlock Holmes, and went on the computer for awhile during the film. Watched some of Something Something Dark Side, then went to bed. Fell asleep.

Hopefully that's enough detail. :P

Another, Possibly Horrendously Awful, Interruption

The Bathwater Has Not Been Let Out

Night, or early morning
Unsure which. All I know
is that my mouth is an empty hipflask
in the midst of a yellow desert.

Bare feet silent on old carpet
but the bathroom door creaks
like the rusty swingset
we had as children.
The light explodes on and pops
the bubblewrap that surrounds my eyes.
Black dots in my vision.
It, like all things, passes.

The bathwater has not been let out.

The ivory seabed is drowned
by the opaque lake
that should have been drained
last night.

The water is murky, muddied by
the thoughts of those who were there.
Dreaming of tomorrow and washing
the cares of today
into the water.
The lake dissolved the secrets that stain skin
and now holds them silent until
they are sucked down the drain
where they cease to have meaning
or secrecy.

The silent lake
this still ocean of yesterday’s cares
is wrong in the stark chemical light.
Bathwater does not belong
in the world
of dark morning
and echoing night.

The bath is a place
of children laughing
and splashing
and rubber ducks bobbing
on the waves like buoys.
Or else
the bath is a place
of golden candles
and solitude
and lavender drifting
on the air like music.

The white bathwater
under the chemical light
is wrong and misplaced.

I would send it away
but the noise it would make
in protest at being told
to leave
would surely perturb
those who are sleeping
and those who are trying
to dream.

I do not want
to submerge my hand in
the problems of someone else
born on a day that has passed
into darkness.

And besides, this water
which sits like milk
is still and quiet
like sheets of silk.

To bed.
And in the morning
the still silent sea
that opaque lake
is gone.

By...Me!
Yeah, me. I wrote this. And I'd like to know what y'all thought, even, and most especially, if you thought it was shit. Just, y'lnow, tell me why.
This is exactly as I wrote it, no edits, nothing. That's how I roll with poems. It just goes as it goes. If something does need changing, let me know.
I'm serious, guys, c'mon!

Interruption the Third

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
The thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

By William Wordsworth.

One of my favourite poems, ever. Something truely beautiful.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 21

A Recipe.

Cookies 'n' Cream Cheesecake

Ingredients:
24 chocolate sandwich cookies (oreos), finely crumbled, about 2 cups
6 tablespoons margarine, room temperature
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Preparation:
Combine fine cookie crumbs and soft margarine; press into bottom of 9-inch springform pan. In a saucepan, soften gelatin in cold water; stir over low heat until dissolved. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and sugar, mixing at medium speed of an electric hand-held mixer until well blended, Gradually add gelatin mixture and milk, mixing until well blended. Chill until mixture is thickened but not set; fold in whipped cream. Reserve 1 1/2 cup cream cheese mixture; pour remaining cream cheese mixture over crust. Top with coarsely crumbled cookies then remaining cream cheese mixture. Chill until firm.

Om nom nom.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 20

A Hobby Of Yours.

Writing.

I like writing. It counts as a hobby, right??
I'm writing a poem at the mo. But it's probably not great. I'm not great with poetry. Better at prose.
I'll post it when I've finished, because I want to know what people think.

Tuesday, June 8

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 19

A Talent of Yours.

Well, this is awkward. So I have to say, 'Well, this is my talent, and I'm amazing'. Great. Um, well, I guess I'll just pick an obvious one, which isn't that amazingly wonderful.

Acting.

I mean, I get Es in Drama and I was picked for NSSP, so I must have some talent, right?

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 18

Whatever Tickles Your Fancy.

"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
-Friedrich Nietzsche
I read a bit of philosophy; especially when I feel a little lost in the world. I've never found a philosopher that I really connect with - I've never read any writings where I believe in all the ideas - but most of Nietzsche is pretty solid, pretty spot-on, in my opinion.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 17

An Art Piece (Painting, Drawing, Sculpture etc).

A painting by Matthew Gray Gubler, who is primarily an actor, but who is also a rather weird artist. This is from his webpage (we're talking literally one page), which is here. It's got heaps of these crazy drawings, paintings, all sorts; and they're all kinda weird and a bit trippy, but I really like them. They're cool, because they're a bit messy and they're not perfect, but that's what makes them interesting.

Another Interruption

"If you were a colour, what colour would you be?" asked Stu randomly.
"Uhm...red?" replied James.
"Why?"
"I dunno, because I like red?"
"That's no answer! You have to think about it!"
"Well, I don't know! What do you think my color would be?" James said, getting frustrated.
"Well, if you found a ten-pound note on the street what would you do?" Stu asked.
"Keep it."
"What if it belonged to someone else?" asked Rob.
James scowled. "Well, I found it! And I'm not going to ask around all day if someone dropped a tenner."
"You have a bagel, what do you do with it?" asked Stu suddenly.
James blinked, confused. "Eat it, of course."
"A man comes up to you and tells you the bagel is poisonous, what do you do?"
"Stop eating the bagel."
"The man takes the bagel from you and eats it, and it turns out its not posionous."
"So he stole my bagel! I want it back!" James declared furiously.
"But the bagel is half-eaten and covered in saliva."
"Throw the bagel at his head."
"The man turns into a bagel."
"Why did the man turn into a bagel??" Rob interupted, but he was ignored.
"Eat the bagel-man!" James answered.
"The bagel man blows up!"
"Um… I get horrible third-degree burns."
"Red!" Stu shouted.
"What?" James asked, confused.
"Third degree burns are red. So you would be red!"
"Well, okay then." James rolled his eyes as he ended up back where the ridiculous conversation had started.
"You know, Stu, it's scary when you start to kind of make sense," Rob laughed.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 16

A Song That Makes You Cry (Or Nearly).

Hurt, by Johnny Cash.

I know, I know. But it is one hell of a sad song, y'know? The Sweets by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs also gets me, because of how I felt when I first heard it, and - as silly as this sounds - that I'm Blue ("I'm blue, baba-dee, baba-di!") song makes me really sad too, beacuse it reminds me of being a kid and never worrying about anything.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 15

A Fanfic.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3437961/1/

Man, I haven't been on fanfiction.net in aaaaages.

The 30 Day Challenge - Day 14

A Non-Fiction Book.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, by John Berendt.

I'm about three-quarters of the way through it, and it has captivated me.
