A Story That Freaks Me Out

I just have to share this.

Okay, you know a story that freaks me out??

You'll never guess.

I'll give you a hint.

It's a FAIRY TALE.

I know, right? Jess McLean, literary whore, freaked out by a little old fairy tale??

Well, this one has sinister undertones.

Sinister I tells ya!!

Okay, give up??

You'll never guess anyway.

It's...

The Pied Piper of Hamelin.

DON'T LAUGH!!

I know you are.

:P

It IS freaky though.

Random piper dude shows up from nowhere, banishes the entirity of the rat population by making them drown themselves, then charms the children away into a mountain cave as revenge for not being paid?

It's freaky.

I was read it as a kid, from out book of Grimm's Fairy Tales, and it gaves me nightmares.

No shit.

You know, one theory goes that the story was based on a serial murdering paedophile. The most popular theory is that it was about a mass exodus, with second place going to the whole theory of The Piper was a symbol of death, and it was about the Black Plague, y'know, with the rats, and the kiddies dying. But the killer paedo theory is scarier.

Check this:
"William Manchester's A World Lit Only By Fire proposes that the Pied Piper was a psychopathic paedophile. Manchester asserts (apparently drawing on Robert Burton's 1621 account) that on June 20th, 1484, this criminal kidnapped 130 children from the Saxon village of Hammel and used them in "unspeakable ways." He adds that "some of the children were never seen again. Others were found dismembered and scattered in the forest underbrush or hanging from tree branches." (From Wikipedia)

:S

There's a book called King Rat by China Mieville which is like a novelised version of the story. It's sooper dooper cool. Still freaky though. I've ordered a copy of it from fishpond.com because I can't find it in any bookstore!!

I found this when I was browsing the net. I thought it was cool:
"Dance of Death, also variously called Danse Macabre (French), Danza Macabra (Italian and Spanish), Dança da Morte (Portuguese), or Totentanz (German), is a late medieval allegory on the universality of death: no matter one's station in life, the dance of death unites all. La Danse Macabre consists of the personified death leading a row of dancing figures from all walks of life to the grave, typically with an emporer, king, youngster, and beautiful girl—all skeletal. They were produced to remind people of how fragile their lives and how vain the glories of earthly life were."
I just thought it was interesting. Plus I like the phrases 'Danse Macabre' and 'Totentanz'. They sound cool.

My brother is watching a SpongeBob DVD on the TV three feet from me.

"Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma!" (Upon seeing the frozen Man-Ray)
"Is this the Krusty Krab?" "No, this is Patrick! I am not a Krusty Krab."
"You know what else is shiny?" "Ice cream!!"
"Ice cream! Two ice creams! Still two ice creams! Washing an old person!" "That's not fun!" "It is for me!"
"Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as - PICKLED FISH LIPS! Seaweevil. Yorgie shmorgie."

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The truth will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
-Stairway to Heaven, Led Zep.

I just love those lyrics.

Over and out. Pointless post complete.
